Scrappy Quilt with Heart

There are always lots of scraps from previous projects and scrappy quilts are the perfect way to put them to good use.

This quilt has a scrappy heart in it and different look from some other scrappy quilts I've made.

The Scrappy Binding Tutorial.  was very useful for making the binding.  Takes a bit more work than a plain binding but, it suits it perfectly.

Bauhaus QAL

Bridgette of Zen Chic designed the quilt and ran the Bauhaus QAL in 2022.  The quilt top sat for a while but I finally got it quilted and hand sewed the binding.

I used her Spotted collection and the Modern Background Even More Paper fabrics.  Fabric was sourced from 3 different stores - Mad About Patchwork, Fat Quarter Shop, Dinkydoo .

Weeks 1 and 2 for for prepping and cutting the fabrics.

Week 3 was for piecing the straight line blocks.

It's handy to use weights for holding down templates or ruler, when cutting fabric.

Squaring these large blocks was not going to happen with this ruler, so purchased a much larger one for the job.

Bias cuts was the objective of Week 4

It's difficult to quilt such a large quilt on my domestic machine, so I had long armer Michelle do the quilting.

Always like to label my quilts.

Funny Squares Quilt

Funny Squares 39 x 48

Participated in a quilt a long in January 2022 with Ekaterine Bessarabova better known on Instagram as @katybess68

The colors on this one really caught my eye and I decided to use the same palette.  Why reinvent the wheel!  Fortunately, the gals at Mad About Patchwork are fantastic at picking colors that I request as I wasn't going to the store itself.  So with a screen shot of the colors in hand,  they chose the Kona solids for me.

Over four weeks I constructed the quilt.  Chain piecing came in handy.

July 2024 - Finally got around to putting the quilt top, batting and backing together.  Quilted with my walking foot attachment.  Added the binding and hand stitched to backing.

Pieced backing made from quilt top scraps.

A big thank you to @katybess68 on instagram for the quilting lines info.  So nice to be able to quilt on my domestic machine.
