Modern Christmas Placemats

With my Creative Pops Ruler III, I put together these placemats based on a quilt pattern I had used - Simple Modern Christmas by Susan Madu.

My 2 1/2" squares when joined together for patchwork, sometimes go a little wonky, so I discovered a way to keep them straight.  By ironing the squares to a piece of one sided fusible interfacing, I can then sew them with a 1/4" seam and voila -  nice neat rows of squares.  This Youtube video uses a preprinted grid and shows the process. Shabby Fabrics Video

Draw a grid of 2 1/2" squares on the interfacing.

Iron squares to interfacing.

Fold and sew 1/4" seam.

Trim a very scant bit and press seam open.

Fold lengthwise and sew 1/4" seam.

Quilted and ready for binding
